Palin flipped on Alaska's 'Bridge to Nowhere'

advertisement

Gov. Sarah Palin was for the so-called infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" before she was against it, a change of position the GOP vice presidential running mate conveniently ignored Saturday.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

She is really good at looking you straight in the eyes while lying to you. Not surprising for a right winger. She is not a nice person.

Pregnant Sarah Palin got on a airplane from Dallas to Alaska hours after her water broke. This was reckless and irresponsible for her and the baby's health. This lack of common sense is unbelievable. It was also inconsiderate to those who flew with her.

It is currently easy to be a popular governor in Alaska, which is overflowing with cash from the North Slope crude oil tax revenue (no hard budget decisions to make) and her winning elections over the previous corrupt gubernatorial politicians (pretty thin corruption fighting resume).

This former Reagan Republican, now Independent, finds John McCain's selection of Governor Sarah Palin for Vice-President an insult.

What I see in McCains action is this.... VERY NEGATIVE FORCES were building up at the convention site AGAINST MCCAIN AND THE NEO-CON REPUBLICAN PARTY - he was going to be barn-sided by both RON PAUL *AND* all the ANTI-WAR PROTESTORS (i.e. Obama had 2,000 show up for his convention rumors were 50,000 were going to show up for McCains convention) ALL SIGNS WERE POINTING TO VERY *VERY* BAD PRESS FOR MCCAIN AND HIS CONVENTION...

moving on - we were going to have to look at PRESIDENT BUSH AND CHENEY make big speeches for McCain which was going to be a BIG MISTAKE... thats now over with...

moving on - we were going to get a REALLY HARD LOOK AT PALIN AND HER NEO-CON ULTRA CONSERVATIVE face and policies and views... thats now over with...

moving on - RON PAUL WAS RUNNING *HIS* COUNTER *TRUE REPUBLICAN* CONVENTION RIGHT NEXT DOOR AND THERE WAS GOING TO BE *BIG DRAMA* OVER THE FIGHTING BETWEEN PAULITES AND MCCAINITES... unforuntately Ron Paul's supporters will NOT BE ABLE TO CONFRONT THE REPUBLICANS in what was going to be a very vocal displeasure with the RNC... thats now over with...

At least Ron Paul is still having his convention and perhaps can draw some media attention but it would have been MUCHO MORE had RON PAUL BEEN ABLE TO GO HEAD TO HEAD WITH THE CURRENT NEO-CON *NOT TRUE* REPUBLICAN PARTY.... p.s. YEA RON PAUL!!

Now with multiple HUGE COUNTER DEMONSTRATIONS not being able to be put on TV, McCain hopes to defuse that situation as well as the Ron Paul situation as well as the horrible choice for VP Palin situation etc...

MAN IS THE GUY RUNNING SCARED... Now lets move on to WHAT THE HELL IS MCCAIN GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO FOR NEW ORLEANS... NADA, NOTHING, BIG FAT ZERO... just another polical grandstanding move to show his concern for Lousiana which he thumbed his nose at during the Katrina disaster and voting AGAINST ALL HELP AND RESTORATION FOR LOUSIANA AND NEW ORLEANS MULTIPLE TIMES.... if ever I wanted money to truly be spent by the government, it is HERE AT HOME ON ONE OF OUR SUPER HISTORIC CITIES WITH A CULTURE UNIQUE TO AMERICA AND A WONDERFUL BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO VISIT... but no - we have to spend 2 trillion dollars and waste 5,000 american lives to Kill one man - saddam - by killing over 300,000 innocent men women and children - where is the logic in that??

This whole election process on the Republican side has STUNK from day one - evil manipulative false ads, a REALLY REALLY STUPID PICK OF PALIN AS VP - NO EXPERIENCE, ULTRA NEO CON CONSERVATIVE, NO EXPERIENCE, AND A PROVEN VINDICTIVE WOMAN - WHERE WAS CONDOLLISA RICE - I DONT LIKE HER BUT SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN A FAR SUPERIOR CHOICE TO PALIN - UMMMM COULD IT BE BECAUSE WHILE A WOMAN SHE IS BLACK?? Hard to pull the racial card on Obama I guess... and IT DOESNT APPEAR that he is going to succeed in playing the female vote card either - while TV may be pushing PALIN (I.E. the neo-con FOX NEWS THE MOST UNFAIR AND UNBALANCED NEWS ORGANIZATION THAT EXISTS)... THE American woman are not stupid nor ignorant, nor pandering to think that Palin is anything like a Hillary Clinton...

By the way CNN just did an expose on McCain - just aired last night, even during the 5 minutes I watched and then turned it off I got to hear A. MCCAIN INTERVIEWED AS A POW POW POW POW POW POW who said he couldnt wait to get home to his loving wife who he truly loves so very very much who is supporting him so very very much.... HA, within one month of getting home he divorces Her for a pill-popping heiress who frames a fellow co-worker to steal her drugs... NO Class CINDY... NO WAY NO HOW NO MCCAIN...

AND THEN MCCAIN GOES ON TO STATE HE SHOT DOWN BECAUSE HE "STUPIDLY SPENT HIS TIME READING WAR AND PEACE WHEN HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONCENTRATING ON HIS FLYING LESSONS" (McCains own words on TV from his own mouth on CNN looks at McCain).... duh - need I say anymore????

Who does he think he's kidding? There were many more knowledgeable, experienced, and more capable women he could have picked as his vice-president running mate. It's obvious he based his choice on her looks. Now he's doing photos with her in the storm area. Maverick? If he's that, then I'm the 5 million dollar man with 5 houses. In his and my dreams.

Isn't it funny how people can believe everything they read without actually knowing if it is true or not?

I bet you are not so anxious to believe everything you read about Obama, are you?

Whenever he tells a big fat whopper all his fans start explaining what he really meant.

But let some biased news media print an article like this and you don't even bother to question whether it is true or not!

Too bad for you that you are so gullible.

Funny that the "author" of this piece of carp has to post the first comment, as though she just read it and is making a spontaneous comment. What an untruthful, bitter, jealous person to be so spiteful of someone that is obviously a very positive person, politician and role-model. Shame on you for this trash and for calling youself an "author".

I'm amazed at this wolf-loving dufus. He spends thousands and thousands of dollars fighting for his dumb dogs when there are HUMAN BEINGS starving in OUR OWN country. What a worthless cause. What a waste of all of our money. God put animals on this earth for humans to use them for their own purposes. You would know that if you cared to find out. I hope at the end of your life, you are so proud of your doggie-stylings. Then I hope you realize you could have actually helped MANKIND.

Sorry, guys, this one's right. There are more sources than this for the 'for the bridge before she was against it' story.

As for the wolves, there is a thing called the food chain. Most, if not all, forms of life on this planet are necessary to either prevent another species from overpopulation or to assist in a process (like pollenation). I know some of you folks aren't fond of science, but there it is.

That is hyperbole in the extreme. All our money is not being wasted on wolves.

God put animals on this earth for humans to use them for their own purposes.

Is that somewhere in the bible? Well then that's another verse that I'll have to mark down as RIDICULOUS. It also makes no sense (for their own purposes?).

Wow, is this the best you can do? How many candidates run for an office and are asked whether they will support certain projects? The game changed when she became Governor, was able to become educated on the situation, and the wastefulness of the project. So you are going to hold it against her because she took the evidence and did the right thing by canceling the project? This is ridiculous. Senator Obama has requested $740 million in earmarks in his three years in the Senate - that is $740 more than Obama has requested in 22 years in the Senate. We are not going to be swayed by this garbage anymore - we want reformers who are going to stop wasting taxpayer dollars. That is why McCain will win.

We are talking about the vetting process of Sarah Palin. And the reasons you are making these statements are weak at best. Lets take a look at how well the democratic voters have vetted Barack Hussein Obama.

1: Associations with William Ayers known terrorist.....Scary
2: Tony Resko convicted slumlord who helped BHO purchase his home. I wonder how deep these ties run....criminal
3: Lets not forget Reverend Wright the nightmare who just won't go away....anti-American

If elected BHO will be the CiC. Any ONE of these associations would create scrutiny during any service members background investigation for a security clearance. Yet every American who voted for BHO as the Dem Nominee just ignore these questionable associations. Would you want this man to be your CiC and have a access to all sensitive material. Knowing these same associations would be cause for any other service member to not achieve a security clearance which limit their ability to perform duties in jobs which require a higher security clearance. I damn sure wouldn't. Double Standards

So Palin first didn't tell the truth to the investigators of the Troopergate scandal, and now she's essentially telling lies by omission regarding the "Bridge to Nowhere" pork barrel spending project. This seems very much like a cyncial crony selection. I would have felt at least safe if Mitt Romney had been picked--this woman is not qualified to be Veep.

Beth- I am hearing SERIOUS rumors (true only rumors) that Palin covered for her underaged daughter who truly had the child by claiming it was hers. Her daughter was pulled out of school for eight months and not seen nor heard of... hhmmmm eight months to recover from Mono??
Rediculous - eight months for a term pregnancy - sounds right on to me...

I am beginning to wonder - is this cover-up really true?? Someone needs to really dig for info in Alaska because this would be a truly great lie and abuse of power to perpetuate a lie like this...

I looked at the picture of the child in HD and found it to be altered probably by Photoshop. Take a look around her waistline you will see a line that does not fit and one below her bump. Unusual Then I looked at the dot on her dress in that area and found they are of a different size. The lead me to believe it was altered so I did not comment on it.

Also I read on two blogs that her children are home schooled and this article says the girl was out of school for 8 months. This is curious and I cannot find anything for sure but I do not believe it is real.

You have to take into consideration that she was in the public eye during her pregnancy.

Now who did the deal. First they will say a liberal did it but why would that happen. She has so many lies that are being disproved that Liberals do not need to do this.

My guess is it is Rove. The Master of deception. He passes it on they release it Liberals jump on it then they get blamed she ends up with a sympathy vote.

By now they know the deception she has created The bridge and the trooper story are being exposed they need to protect her with something. They made a mistake and it could ruin them.

Isn't it strange that a proud parent and selected candidate for VP would not hold her new born. Senator Obama was challenged as to his readiness. What about the selected VP as to her readiness for the presidency and the VP slot?

Oh for heaven's sake, you people need a life. If she had been holding her newborn, you would have said she was using him for publicity.

As far as her "covering" for her daughter and her supposed pregnancy, that is absolutely false. Anyone who saw her while she was pregnant could tell that she was indeed pregnant. Saying nasty things about her and her family is just a desperate attempt by democrats to throw her in a bad light because they have little else. Democrats rushed to the defense of Bill Clinton when he was busted for oral sex with an intern while on the job, saying that was his "private business" yet are willing to spread falsehoods about a remarkable woman. Comment when you have actual facts, not just regurgitated B***S*** from the dems spin machine.

Well, at least have her husband hold the baby. It was ridiculous to see the 16 year old holding the baby. Why isn't the husband, who supposedly is the one taking care of the baby, holding him. Is he afraid he won't appear macho enough? A joke of a pick. The family already seems dysfunctional. And any woman that would leave a four month old special needs baby has got to be selfish, and self-centered.

This wasn't a lie by omission, it was an outrght lie. She didn't say Thanks, but no thanks, she LAST FALL directed that the funds be spent on transportation issues, which was a rule alreay put into the earmark.

I really thin Rove is trying to sink him because he believes all the stuff he said about him in the carolinas in 2000

I don't see why anyone should think this article is out of the ordinary. Obama has flip-flopped on so many issues it's impossible to list them all! I would think in the case of the honorable Governor Palin, her position concerning whether or not to support the "bridge to nowhere" issue was changed as more information became available.

Her decision was not made on what would get her votes. She was ALREADY the governor of Alaska. Mr. Obama will say or do anything that he thinks will get him votes. Take your time to review his position on the top 10 major issues and you will see that he has changed and changed again his position as the campaign approaches November 4.

Mr. Obama has NEVER served in an executive position, not as a mayor, not as a governor, not even as a Senate subcommittee leader. He is so hung up on being non-commital that he voted PRESENT instead of For or Against legislation.....

If you know anything about the issues that Mr. Obama claims that John McCain voted 90% of the time with President Bush, you will know that these were not all "earth-shattering" issues. I say that if a man has courage enough to vote his conscience, that certainly tops a man who is so shallow that he would not vote at all!

Mr. Obama's stint as a community organizer and 4 years in the Senate does NOT indicate leadership ability. Mrs. Palin has him beat with her experience as a mayor and as the governor of a state. As has been the pattern in the Obama campaign from day one, the tactic seems to be that if he can draw attention to everyone else's "faults" it will keep attention from his own myriad of incompetencies!

Listen to his responses to questions; he'd rather die than give a straight answer. He'd rather ramble on with his "empty eloquence" not only beating AROUND the bush, but jumping over it. Notice how his direct interviews leave him stammering, stuttering and making statements for which he has to apologize later. His speech writers do an okay job of writing his speeches but the man just can't hang when it comes to unscripted responses!

PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE.........if this opportunist makes it to the White House, we can kiss our flag, our national anthem, our retirement and our constitution goodbye.

Get we already have "kissed" some of these things away in the past soon to be eight years. Lastly , if the Senator does in fact vote his conscience then why the 180 on prochoice as he was in 2000. What about the turn around on the tax cuts for the euber wealthy? Conscience huh? Palin fits right in with this line of thinking. Only reason she changed her position was to publicly distance herself from Stevens while he is under his own investigation. Didn't McCain say that Phil Graham would leave his campaign only to return a month later. A decision made of conscience. Stammer and stutter on that.

A half truth is still a lie. She stated in her speech this was one of her accomplishments that she stopped the bridge to save taxpayer money when in fact she supported the bridge Right up to the time Congress wanted Alaska to take the majority of the costs. Then she opposed it. The Bridge to nowhere was Stevens thing. Turns out he and his friends own property there at the end. There is a ferry there now and I guess they did not want to wait for it.

There is another story you will find in the Times on someone using her small child's name and someone who had a lot of personal information on the family who went in to Winkipedia and altered he profile the night before she was supposed to be in Dayton for the announcement. Great Post. If there are any doubters, they are either in denial or did not watch the Saddleback Forum. Sen. McCain destroyed Obama in every facet of the interview. It is completely obvious Obama's is aware of his own weakness as actions speak louder than words. This is evident to the fact, Obama refused to attend town hall meetings with McCain, and avoids Bill O'Reilly in a fair and balanced debate like the plague. (You also cannot say Bill is not fair and balanced if you viewed his interviews with Hillary Clinton and John McCain) Obama opts out in favor of giving speeches to large crowds instead of engaging in a productive debate with his opponents. Obama will debate John McCain only at the minimum required, so as not to give the appearance of avoiding them altogether.

For one thing, Obama as opposed to others writes many of his own speeches. He also did not use a ghost writer for his books. As for his 'stuttering and stammering' at forums like Saddlebrook, I saw a man who gave thoughtful, even profound answers at times. Like when asked the question about how to defeat evil, Obama responded that often evil is committed in the name of good so it's important that when taking any aggressive action, one needs to proceed with sense of humility. It's funny my girlfriend and I had a conversation about Obama yesterday. She says Obama scares her because he wants to change politics, he wants America to think deeply and with common sense and the problem is that Americans are just not that deep. (or smart?)

It's hard to disagree with that assessment when I read posts like yours that provide clear evidence that some people are so deaf to profundity that all they are able to hear is 'stuttering and stammering.'

On the subject of organizational and managerial skills, history may yet determine that the campaign organization that Obama put together was one of the best run in American history. So much for never managing 'anything'.

Speaking of Saddlebrook, McCain came across as a 5th grade game show contestant. If giving fast answers or telling (emotionally affecting I admit) POW stories that didn't even always match the questions is your idea of 'winning' then you are right. Since this is first I've listened to McCain speak at length, I was mainly struck by an impression of immaturity. Obama, on the other hand sounded like a grown-up having a depthful conversation.

To say Bill O'Reilly is not fair and balanced is absurd. Did you watch either the McCain or the Clinton interview? As much as I hate to admit it, Hillary did and outstanding job answering the tough questions. Laureng, you need lay off that kool-aid you been drinking. One, I said nothing about the Obama's stuttering and stammering, but since you mentioned it and 5th graders. hmmm think about what you said that is how my 2 kids talk when they are lying or don't know an answer but won't admit it. For crying out loud Obama cannot even admit the surge in Iraq has worked. Now I agree there needs to be a change in the way politics in America are conducted. But as a soldier who has traveled around the world and seen the effects of a welfare/socialist state and the cost to its citizens, Obama is way too far to the left for America. Compound that with a far left Senate and Congress and we've got a recipe for disaster.

The commentator, not a journalist, of course, who wrote this article should do a bit more unbiased' research and find out why and how a 'candidate' might learn more and develop a new approach to an issue such as a Bridge being built in her state, after that candidate becomes a Governor. Also, how about all the good news about Palin? A woman, a leader, a very popular Governor, etc. A mom, and not just a 'beauty queen", you moron. She was a sports news anchor after the beauty queen years, she was a Mayor, an Ethics Committee head, and a hard hitter, a campaigner for Leut. Governor, then a successful campaigner for Governor. But, of course, you are a liberal democrat posing as a journalist, what do you know? A complete discredit to your profession. What's new with MSNBC. All of you are pathetic. Are you all haveing an affair with Chris matthews and Keith Olbermann? Think.

The article seemed fair to me, and included the governor's press secretary's spin on her change of mind. A change of mind when one knows the full facts certainly can be justified. It also mentioned John Kerry's flip-flop on Iraq spending, which was completely irrelevant to the matter at hand. And as for "all the good news about Palin," that isn't the subject of the article. It isn't relevant. Reporters are not supposed to add gratuitous filler material just to make someone look good. But when all else fails, we can insult one another, eh, Patrick?

McCain left his wife and mother of his children for a younger woman....Rudy Giulianni has left more than one wife for a younger woman.....Newt Gingrich served his ex-wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital fighting cancer. Hard to beat those facts, isn't it? Having an affair with Chris doesn't sound so bad now!!!!

As things are going now who is to believe the rest. Most of the Alaskan bloggers are laughing particularily about the executive bit. Is she for real or just another political opportunist.

Actually, before you smear the author you should check other sources. This is a very fair representation of what happened. Other sources are much less charitable, linking her change of heart to the Congressman's troubles.

this is what happens when the proper vetting procedures are not taken & a decision as important as as selecting a vice president is made by actually meeting your selection in person ONCE!! how can this man be seriousily considered as a presidential candidate... do YOU trust this man with decisions affecting YOUR life??

How could any thinking person support Palin? She is probably a nice person, a good Christian etc, but so is my grandmother. None of these things prepare her for being President of the United States. What is wrong with this picture? The Hillary supporters will not support her. She does not represent any of Hillary's ideas.

I hope this pandering move towards the women of this country is seen for exactly what it is... PALIN IS NO HILLARY... Initially a Ron Paul supporter, reality is he will not be running for a Presidential bid (shame) so I looked at who is NEXT IN LINE with his political and social views and it was no contest - OBAMA -

Saying this, I am certainly not a person who likes Condolissa Rice HOWEVER, she would have been a FAR FAR *FAR* SUPERIOR CHOICE as VP - one that might have attracted women AND blacks - what happened to her?? Could it be an anti-racial move i.e. a woman is fine, a black is not as we are using and abusing the racial issue here...

I dunno - whatever - I have already seen and heard MANY MANY WOMAN WHO WERE HILLARY SUPPORTERS SAYING - NO WAY PALIN - NO WAY, NO HOW, NO MCCAIN...

Palin equal to HILLARY??? NO WAY NO HOW, NO MCAIN/PALIN

McCain is a war hero????? Why not? Deception is now accepted as a standard qualification for any offices in the Republican Party. Think about all the decision made by President Bush and assess the ardent support by the rank/file. Do they believe that it was a mistake? Not at all. They still advocate for the same kind of governance sustained by the future leaders. Ethical and morale values are extinguished and no question is asked. They are on the march except for the few, like Senator C. Hegel, who is now isolated from the party for his doubts. What concerns me is why are they adamant to destroy America? Why inflict such harm on us? They claim to be God fearing but their action is so ungodly. They call themselves pro-life but they destroy nature on every opportunity they come across. We all have to pry hard for god to help us return to the right direction. I believe it is only God who at this point have the power to soften their mind and ask for his divine intervention.

I darn sure wouldn't. Double Standards

Andrew Halcro, a fellow Alaskan Republican, successful businessman and former state legislator, who campaigned against Palin for the Republican nomination for the governorship, not only discussed this matter of Sarah Palin's documented flip-flop on the bridge project, but also reports on serious questions about the improper and inappropriate role of her husband, Todd, in the operations of state government.

Todd Palin was instrumental in Sarah Palin's attack on the head of Alaska's Department of Public Services in the effort to pressure him to fire a state trooper. Mr. Palin also fought for the firing of one of his spouse's loyal aides, John Bitney, her Legislative Liaison, when Mr. Bitney began to date the soon-to-be-ex-wife of one of Mr. Palin's good friends. According to Mr. Bitney, he was unceremoniously fired. Worse, after the firing, the governor's office apparently lied to the press about it, saying that Mr. Bitney and the governor had "mutually agreed he would leave his post for personal reasons." AP, 7/10/07.

Apparently, Mr. Palin has sat in on the governor's meetings with legislators and appointed officials (to the complete surprise of the invitees, who stated that his presence was inappropriate), as well as receiving "cc"'s of emails to officials that the governor's office is now claiming to be exempt from public disclosure as privileged "deliberative process and "executive privilege" materials under Alaska's Freedom of Information Act. The problem with the governor's claim of exemption, however, is that those emails already were disclosed to a member of the general public, i.e., Todd Palin, who is not a state official and has no official role in Sarah Palin's administration. Therefore, the claim of privilege cannot stand. To be blunt, the governor's office is breaking the law.

These are not rumors or innuendo. These are documented facts reported by the Alaskan Press and from direct quotes from state legislators and officials.

Sarah Palin. . . She just keeps getting better.

So, if she were V.P. it would seem that her hubby would get to sit in on all the meetings as executive privelege, and who the heck is really running the show there? If he wanted to be governor himself why the heck didn't HE run????

Heck the way she works she could have appointed him as something "officiial" in order to at least make his presence halfway legitimate.

After all, she appointed her brother in law trooper before she decided to take that decision back too. Coincidentally AFTER her sister divorced him. (I think he SHOULD be fired, but who's the MORON who appointed him in the first place????? You guessed it... PALIN.)

I thought these examples of McCain/Palin executive experience to be enlightening:

How Sarah handles adversity (from the Anchorage Daily News):" Gov. Sarah Palin, who expressed disappointment with the dairy closing, replaced the entire membership of the Board of Agriculture and Conservation, which oversees the Creamery Board. The new agriculture board then installed itself . . ."

                                            http://dwb.adn.com/news/alaska/matsu/story/9099429p-9015627c.html

This is how John McCain deals with American citizens who dissent:

Queston to McCain: At what point do you stop doing what YOU think is right and start doing what the majority of Americans want?
McCain's answer: I disagree with the majority of Americans.

What a comfort to know that with all their experience they feel so confident of themselves and omnipotent!

I'm so frightened of that duo, I can't sleep!

on her way up she nailed two of her republican "friends" on ethics violations. Alaska politics are as dirty as you can get. One time my friend who left up there told me he would give me a plane ticket and bet me I could not find an honest politician in thirty days. Alsaskans themselves laugh about it! Her husband called the guy she hired on the phone from her office and tried to pressure him to fire the trooper!!! She was out of town LOL
When the guy would not cave again she was out of town and she sent an assistant to fire him. She replaced the guy and a few weeks later the replacement had to resign!

I do not make this stuff up folks. And I am sure the DNC has all this information because it is readily available out there if you look for it. If I can find it so can they and certainly that brain dead staff of McCains should have found it but they are mostly llobbyists who have better things to do than protect him.

George B.. don't want you to make an ass out of yourself.. since you want to be fair, you have to also give the other side of the aisle as well...

                                                Hillary is big liar
                                                Bill is a huge liar
Al Gore is a huge liar to global warming proportions
Obama.. hmm.. don't know if he is a liar or not.. I mean he went to a racist church for 20 years and says he wasn't there when they were spewing the hate. He is in bed with a developer who is on trail right now...hmmm.. I think we can say he is a huge liar as well.

I also think the dem party is a liar also.. did you see that tape at the convention when Hillary was naming off the things that she was a "proud blank" and it got huge appluase..

"I am a proud mom" huge applause
"I am a proud New Yorker". Huge applause
"I am a proud American." Did you hear the crickets after that statement? Go back and review the tapes, it's there..

Also, the choice of the Dum Nominee by Obama.. how come all these years I have been hearing that Chaney was in charge not George. The Vice president should not be doing anything when it comes to foreign policy etc etc.. Yet when Biden gets nominated all we hear from the Dums and the leftist fascist media is that "Biden is a good nomination, because he knows a lot about foreign policy, and can do wonders in that region for Obama."

Wait.. I thought I heard all of yall say that a vice president shouldn't do that... do we actually have Dems telling the truth and trying to be reassuring that Obama doesn't know anything and Biden will pick up the slack? BTW the steel workers Obama rescued when they lost their jobs.. who closed the steel plant.. what side of the aisle made the plant close, and who were the enviormentalist?

I just wanted to help George B (the poster) out with his liars list so he is the fair man he pretends to be.. or is he a liar too?

Okay, so politicians lie. Isn't our duty to call them on their bull@!$%#? If someone, left or right lies, I find it my duty to call them on that. If the candidates don't have integrity enough to disclose this, they deserve the fallout from having it disclosed.

For all you nay sayers....Have any of you made a decision and then later learned more information about it and then changed your mind?? That is no different than those in political office. They have a right to change their minds also. What you have to watch out for are those that speak out of both sides of their mouths, and do something opposite of what they are telling you. Sarah is a brilliant woman. I know her ex brother-in-law personally and I wouldn't trust him with a ten foot pole. He did in fact get pulled over by one of the "brotherhood" of Alaska State Troopers for possible DUI, and wasn't arrested. He is not an innocent person, and neither are several other troopers. There are several that could be and should be fired for violating the states nepotism rules, and who get away with the abuse of power, especially toward their families. Don't judge someone unless you have been in their shoes. I would have done the same thing she did, had I been in her position. She is in to cleaning up the problems, and there are problems with the Alaska State Troopers that need cleaned up. She has stood her ground to a lot of bullying and I am proud to call her my Governor. She will do a great job as Vice President!!

As far as the baby is concerned, I am a Mom, and if I were to give a speech, I would have one of my eldest children hold my baby as well. This way, I could concentrate on my presentation, and not have to worry about the needs of my baby at the moment. That is what families do, they support and help eachother out. Obviously you have never given a speech in front of a large audience, or run for political office, or been in the spot light like that. For your information, she holds her son a lot, and is a very devoted mom, and hard working woman.

Sarah has done a fantastic job in every executive position she has held. She will stand during the pledge of allegiance, and during the national anthem. She will salute, or hold her hand over her heart when the pledge is recited, or the anthem sung. She is proud of her country and proud of her state.

The opponent on the other hand has no respect for this country, and shouldn't even be allowed to run for president. He won't produce a birth certificate, HMMMM wonder why? He is not a legal citizen of the United States I am quite sure, so he is not eligible for the office which he is trying to attain.

Governor Palin is a very brilliant woman and I am proud to vote for her as my next Vice President. She is a down to earth person, and a breath of fresh air to the stuffy politics in Washington. Go get up Sarah!!!

First, Obama even made his birth certificate available online; it is against the Constitution to run for presidency without being a born citizen. You really think he'd be allowed to run if that were true?

"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

Second, yes, a politician is allowed to change their mind. But she was aware of the fact that the bridge led to nowhere and would be costly before she approved it. If she couldn't see the reality that $398 million is a lot for a pointless bridge, then I hate to see what other judgement she must learn on the job.

Ms. Alaska ... go to factcheck dot org. This is a non partisan site that looks into claims by both parties ... and either confirms or decries inaccurate statements (they rip into Obama just as much as McCain). There is a link "Born in the U.S.A.", date August 21, 2008, The truth about Obama's birth certificate. Bottom line, their experts examined Obama birth certificate and did other in-depth analysis and he is indeed a native born American citizen. You may not consider Hawaii to be a real state ... but it is one of the 50 states of this union. So ... before you make ignorant statements ... check your facts!

No respect for your country ... we are involved in a debacle of a war in Iraq based on lies, Afghanistan is falling into the hands of the Taliban, Bin Laden still on the loose, record profits for the oil companies and tax breaks for the wealthy, jobs going overseas, foreclosures at an all time high, an all time high deficit (we had a surplus during Clinton's presidency), ignoring global warming, a city was drowning and it took nearly a week for the Bush administration to react ... is this what you call respect for your country?

If what I've heard about the former brother in-law is true, then he should be fired. But that's not the point. The point is the governor's interference in a personnel (or is it personal?) matter, and her dismissal of the person who wouldn't do what she demanded. Whether or not her intentions were wholly honorable and not self-serving, if she did what she's accused of doing, then that is an abuse of power.

Holding the baby? You're right about that. Of course, she didn't hold the baby! Would you give a major speech with an infant on your chest? Would you conduct a public meeting or argue a case in court or try to sell a car while holding a child? Of course not.

But you are wrong about a LOT of other things, and that bit about Obama not being a U.S. citizen and his birth certificate -- that's just not the truth. To begin with, Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution mandates citizenship in order to be elected to the Senate. And only native-born citizens are eligible for the presidency. Don't you think that those basic qualifications are verified?

By the way, did you know that McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone? He's a citizen, too. Please make some effort to check your facts.

I can see Hannity and Limbaugh saying something like "well, the gorilla was the leader of his/her group (executive experience) and led the war against invading gorillas (forein policy experience). My guess is the top 1% or the uber-rich are not the folks offering comments on this site. The same people who are adamant in their criticism of his LIBERAL and SOCIALISTIC policies are the people who would most benefit from health care reform, better access to education etc.

Palin was asked about the firings and stated in the case of the brother in law- the person in the investigation who she removed (which was not her bother in law) was not an elected official but was in a position the governor appoints- like a cabinet sorta. And that traditionally the governor has had the right to choose the folks in this position that they may work with to meet the goals of the state- which she did. not sure of any other positions that may have seen staff changes.

She did not want to accept this position if the president would make the job a title only. Of course, the VPs duties for the great part are determined by his or her assignment by the Pres. She noted she was busy in her duties and would hope the VP job would be fruitful.

Republicans are the only people who can make justifications for bad ideas. You don't have to always vote the party line. Sometimes you need to dig deeper and admit when you've made bad decisions. There is no way choosing Palin for VP was sound. In just a few days enough as been dug up about her that should have had McCain running for the hills. His choice was supposed to make him look like the better candidate but it's made him look like a dirty old man. Palin's life is going to be torn apart and she doesn't even know the VP's job duties. They teach that in middle school. And if you didn't know that, have the smarts to ask somebody who does know in private. Those types of questions could have been answered had McCain met her more than once and not made a dick-jerk reaction. If you have any hint of scandal attached to you (and Palin has plenty, i.e. troopergate, stance on global warming and energy, claiming her 17 year-old's baby as hers ala As the World Turns, doesn't care that the poor polar bears are dying), it's your responsibility to turn down the job. I feel sorry for her family. This is frightening because you all do have the talent to spin this to your benefit at the expense of the country. Lack of experience is now off the table. Being a member of the PTA doesn't give you the experience to be the leader of the free world. I don't care how many bake sales you organized. It's Alaska, for crying out loud! They have to pay their citizens to live there.

Dems: Don't let this distract. This is going to get so ugly. Remember what these folks did to John Kerry regarding his military experience. It takes crazy talent to make a highly decorated military veteran look unpatriotic. Obama at least made a sound decision with his VP pick who may well ascend to the oval office because these folks going to loose it if he wins.

Hillary Fans: Palin is not Hillary by no stretch of the imagination. I know you're angry but calm down and think rationally. Vote on the issues for the most part, not on the people. Except in this case because this is just stupid.

Independents: Please stop saying that you're choosing the lesser of two evils. That's just ignorant. Do candidate comparisons to see if their platforms are those that will make the country as a whole, better. Look at voting records and campaign speeches. Look at the current president's promises and see how many he kept. If the current candidates promise the exact same things, be wary. I know it's hard but for God's sake, read people!

We've once again been made the laughing stock of the world.

Have a suicide bomb go off at an embassy.. give a news blurb

USS Cole bombing.. fire two missiles at an empty field in the desert.

Have the twin towers bombed once...be OJ and look for the killers.. I mean the bombers

Have the twin towers bombed again..put a man on trial .the man with no hands. What ever happened to that guy?

Have Bin Ladin wrapped up in a pretty package for you as a present from another country, after all these events have transpired, and knowing that Ossama was in charge of them all.

Ummmm.. say No I spose, it's OK.. we don't want him, let him go.

The war in Iraq is wrong.. it has nothing to do with our country.. but Bosnia on the other hand.. well yes, that has everything to do with our country, lets go invade it.

"Whats that you say? The U.N is going to be a pussy again and not help us, AGAIN? Oh well.. they will help us when we have finished, and have stabilized the mess."

Dar-fur is in trouble.. well lets just talk about the problems like the U.N. does and do nothing, it's what we do as a party.

Geez.. yes he didn't give a very insightful post, but what post do you give to dems who believe themselves to be so enlightened that they really don't know what's going on in the world. We are a laughingstock?

You mean from country's like France and other's who didn't want us to go into Iraq? Then it was found after we went in that they were violating the trade embargo so they could get cheap oil from Iraq..? Those country's are laughing at us?

In case it has missed your attention, we have always been disliked by the world before this war, where have YOU been? Or have you forgotten that right after 9-11 the news footage of all the people in the Middle East dancing and singing that 3000 people were killed as well as two buildings collapsing on television..Oh.. thank Ol'billy for that too.. he left the people who were responsible for 9-11 do what they did.

Yes I agree, lets follow their examples on how to be a good little law-abiding county....

In case you can't think for yourself, Iraq is next to Iran, which is supplying the arms and training to most of the Islamic terrorists.. or did you miss that news article or the Iraqi spies who reported the training camps?

Iraq is a very important strategic point, notice how after the surge worked (Obama will not admit he was wrong about that BTW) and order is being restored and Iran knows we are watching them, Terrorists operations around the world have almost ceased.

A part of me almost hopes Obama gets elected, then the terrorist will know we have another Clinton in office and will hit us again...much harder. (Hopefully in New York, California, or Oregon) and people will finally expose your party and make it go away.

You cannot live on a philosophy of high ideals, unless you factor in human nature.. and that my dear Dem is why your philosophy will never work. While you think about this.. why don't you go and give more money to the same people you have been giving welfare to since the end of LBJ's administration..after all welfare was supposed to be a hand-up, and not a hand-out right?

I am sure you Dems have never used that kind of language when protesting about a cause that's on your little Dem minds...like how bad ice cream is for you..or that cashiers at Walmart who have no college should be making nuclear physicist wages for scanning groceries...

Yes,I am sure you said a few F bombs when fighting to get that illegal alien who works in the drive thru more money...after all, we know these jobs are careers. (Did I miss something or do you think this is the 1950's when these were actually considered good respectable jobs?)

Bin Laden had his own personal, selfish one...money. He used religion to motivate, just like some of the Christian right try to do here. As for Iraq and Iran...maybe if the west hadn't created two 'faux' countries and set up the borders for them, then armed both of them to fight each other, we might be liked a little bit more in the Middle East. And it wasn't Democrats that gave them the ammo and told them to shoot. It was the Republicans.

                                                                                          Local library...history section...try it.

Same deep, reasoning behind his discourse. Toastee - you're a Clinton hater who believes that we have not been attacked again because a tough Republican is in office, just like Reagan was responsible for the fall of communism, keep deluding yourself.

Seems to me it happened on the republican watch and the terrorists are getting stronger and stronger while the republicans are still in office. Lots of fear and divisions spewed from them for too long. Time for a CHANGE.

There is using your influence legally and then there's influence peddling. There is becoming powerful enough to influence and then there's abuse of power. Obama is the first; Palin is the latter.

Bama chas - surprisingly you should have seen the expose on McCain by CNN last night - I think they tried (remember they are owned also by Rupert Murdoch) to show McCain in a good light, but their aired (in five minutes mind you as I turned it off quickly) two very DAMNING pieces on McCain (I should have watched the rest)

The first was an interview with McCain when he was a POW POW POW POW POW POW - in which he says he cant wait to get home and return to his loving supporting wife who he loves so VERY VERY MUCH... but within one month of returning home he files divorce papers to marry a pill-popping heiress who framed a fellow co-worker to steal her drugs (what a class act Cindy)

and then he was ACTUALLY SHOWN BEING INTERVIEWED WHERE HE ADMITTED HE WOULDNT HAVE BEEN SHOT DOWN HAD HE ACTUALLY PAID ATTENTION TO HIS FLYING LESSIONS INSTEAD OF READING WAR AND PEACE... wow - to admit he neglected his flying lessons and thus was shot down because of it.... McCain you are also a class act - NOT...

He had to be joking, I'm surprised he's ever heard of the book. And what's with the interest in Russian writers anyway? He already cribbed the "cross in the dust" story from Solzhenitsyn, about a month after writing and publishing an article about this Russian author. He's such a liar.
